Rebekah Isaacs is one of the most capable, expressive and well-utilised comics artists in the business and is one of those people that I will follow for the rest of her hopefully long and fruitful career. For a series that is as grounded in its inter-personal dynamics as Buffy the Vampire Slayer is, you need an artist that can capture the spectrum of emotions that each character goes through, while also ensuring that the detail on the supernatural creatures isn’t neglected. During this issue, our Scoobies are put through the emotional ringer during the demon invasions of Earth while also attempting to settle a moral dispute. Every time that a new issue of Season 10 is released, I’m blown away by the ease with which you could read this book without any text and still grasp a vast proportion of the plot. Isaacs comprehends the understated details that give a facial expression its meaning, so the small face crinkles and the side-smirks combine to form an extra layer that is missing from so many mainstream comics. On top of all of that, backgrounds are filled with intricacies that enhance the magical aesthetic while also ensuring that you know these characters have lives outside of what we see.
