Red Sonja (2017) #22 |

While I’ve been a big fan of Chu’s work on the title, the message of this issue is, in my opinion, TERRIBLE! Sonja convinces a troll to abandon his own choice to try and lead a better life, and instead just be what’s always expected of him. The rationalization given here that people have to act according to their nature flies in face of free will and self determination, “Dont try to improve yourself - it’s hard and you should just do whatever is easy and makes you immediately happy.” In the end the troll gives up so a bunch of lazy villagers don’t have to solve their own problems, and Sonja leaves feeling smug. Ms Chu, what the hell were you thinking? |

Another poor message to follow the one in last issue - this time that the life of a person who doesn’t accomplish great things is worth less. |
