    Comicosity - Matt Santori Apr 12, 2017

As saddened as I am by the news this series will reach its end with Olives story complete at issue #12, I am held by two truths. One, that it seems inevitable that Gotham Academy will continue to grow in other forms outside this particular comic book series, be it in novel, graphic novel, or animated form. And two, that we still have the glory of four issues like Gotham Academy: Second Semester #8 to enjoy, rounding out 31 issues of a book that stands as one of the greats of the recent era. Batman-News - Brandon Mulholand Apr 13, 2017

This issue has so much going for it. Not only is it continuing the adventures of the children at Gotham Academy, but it propels their story forward in leaps and bounds. My favorite part involved the history of Amity Arkham and how she was burned alive at the stake as a witch. The way it unfolds definitely makes it feel like the kind of creepy ghost story you'd tell around a campfire. This issue also mixes in elements of Gothic Horror and Cosmic Horror that push the book to new heights. All in all, I'm insanely pleased with what Gotham Academy has been doing of late and greatly look forward to the direction they are taking the tale. Read Full Review

The Batman Universe - Gerry Green Apr 13, 2017

Seeing Olive, in her perfectly straight plaid skirt and knee socks, standing over a downed Batman gave me quite a chuckle. When Olive disappears from Batman's lasso, Pomeline looks at Bats and says ‘No! Shes gone' but I imagined that she followed by saying to him ‘…you idiot.' A fantasy perhaps, but that shows you how wrapped up I am in these characters and this story. If you are a fan of magic, mystery, and undying friendship I recommend this book to you wholeheartedly. Major Spoilers - Matthew Peterson Apr 12, 2017

I've argued for a long time that comic books should be allowed to have natural ends, and if any book deserves it, it's Gotham Academy, a comic which has long ignored the "traditional" rules of comics. Gotham Academy: Second Semester #8 brings a lot of things to a boil all at once, but keeps it all balanced, with clear and excellent art, some real suspense and an ending that will make you want issue #9 immediately. The Fandom Post - Chris Beveridge Apr 18, 2017

Gotham Academy: Second Semester has been such a rollercoaster of quality in terms of storytelling and structure that it's frustrating as it could have been a great run. What we get here is the payoff to a lot of things that have been put together in awkward form for a while now and I wanted it to resonate more than it did, but this semester has had more drag on it than it should and it reduces the effectiveness here. There are some really good moments, some solid artwork, and a design for the final four issues that has me hopeful that we get some resolution to events and a way forward for these kids to still exist as their stories can and should be endless and fun. I want so much for this book but continue to feel like it falls short in some pretty big ways. Read Full Review

Weird Science - Reggie Hemingway Apr 12, 2017

The pacing has been way off for this whole series, but now we come to the payoff. And it's pretty mediocre. I think it's time some children got left behind. Read Full Review

I love the series as a whole, but gotham academy second semester's pacing has been off the rails lately, this one is no different. It reveals so much too quickly, that i wasn't as into it as much as i hope it should have. The way the story is progressing, they're pretty much rushing ending to the series, hopefully they do the final arc justice. i'll give this a 6.7 the plot and story is there but the pacing and execution wasn't. (edit) still excited for the conclusion.
