Defenders: Beyond #3 has the Defenders continue their cosmic journey, this time they're up against the Phoenix Force. The art from Javier Rodriguez continues to look amazing, this time with the Phoenix taking the center stage as the star attraction. Al Ewing is a fantastic writer. Is incredible the way he's writing the lore of the marvel universe with such delicate prose. But the highlight here is to the artist which in this case is the one actually giving all this lore a sense and a purpose.
Love this book, hoping for this team to continue the collaboration.

In the hands of a lesser artist this could be tediously self-indulgent, but like Promethea (an obvious influence on this comic) this series can get away with just about anything because it's drawn by a master of the craft

It's a shame when Marvel does great books it's only for 5 issues...

Ewing/Rodriguez are a great team!

In contrast to the last issue, in this one, the philosophy-adventure balance leans a little toward the latter. The philosophy's still there, albeit mainly just playing with some pretty familiar (for Al Ewing) ideas. The adventure story's great, though; I loved that this was Tigra's big spotlight moment. And of course, it all still looks gorgeous. A very good comic.

I feel like I am missing something, having not read much with the Phoenix Force of late. Plus this cast is just not as engaging as the last one. Thankfully, the art is great.
