Action Comics (2011) #33

Jul 9, 2014

Supergirl and Superdoom Superman had a very interesting interaction, but something was just off. Superman acted shocked when he saw her as a Red Lantern even though an entire issue of Red Lanterns was devoted to having Guy Gardener explain to Superman about Red Lantern Supergirl. Supergirl's reaction to Superman was a little odd too. I know she is trying to help him make the best of a bad situation, but he is infected with freaking Doomsday. No good is gonna come out of that.

Aquaman (2011) #33

Jul 29, 2014

Aquaman, like so many other DC titles, has the potential for greatness. There are a lot of interesting ideas floating around in this book, but there just seems to be something missing that ties it all together. Once Jeff Parker can find what it is then this book will be one of the best on the stands. Right now, though, its just ok.

Aquaman (2011): Futures End #1

Sep 9, 2014

The writing is stiff and too reliant on shocks. The art is serviceable at best. The one-shot isn't self-contained. Just stay away from this book.

Avengers (2012) #34

Sep 1, 2014

Honestly, you knew beforehand whether or not you are going to pick this up. Either you are following Hickman's Avengers or you're not. There is no jumping in now. That said, this is a really good issue of the Avengers where important decisions are made that will affect the book from here on out.

Avengers (2012) #34.1

Sep 13, 2014

The story and art of Avengers #34.1 is fantastic. It is very deep and character driven stuff, which has been lacking from the Avengers as a whole lately. Now if only it didn't cost five bucks"

Batman (2011) #32

Jun 28, 2014

There really isn't anything bad with the issue itself. Its beautifully drawn and well written, as always. Sure, some of the twists were things we have seen before, but it was still done well. The problem with this story line is and forever will be the necessity of it and whether it was worth halting an entire year's worth of current Batman stories for this one origin story. That's an argument for a different column, though. Here I am just supposed to tell you what I thought of the issue at hand and I say its a good read.

Batman (2011) #34

Aug 19, 2014

This issue is amazing. It is great seeing the Dark Knight getting back to what he does best and it certainly helps that Matteo Scalera was here this month to dazzle us with his art. What more do you want from a Batman comic?

Batman (2011): Futures End #1

Sep 12, 2014

Future's End Batman #1 is an extremely solid tale with great art and an interesting story. This isn't a perfect book by any means, but definitely one worth picking up.

Batman: Eternal #13

Jul 3, 2014

This isn't necessarily bad, but just something that annoys me. Is it just me, or do James Gordon, James Jr, and Lt. Bard all look pretty much the same? I get James Jr. looking like his dad. That makes sense. I just think that if you put James Jr. and Bard in a lineup that you could not tell them apart. Minor complaint. That's all I got for this one.

Black Science #7

Jul 31, 2014

This book is just fun. The story is exciting and the art is beautiful. Isn't that all we really want from a comic book anyways? Go out and pick this one up now because if you aren't then you are missing out on one of the best books on the stands right now.

Deadly Class #7

Sep 18, 2014

Finally, one of the best titles on the stands is back. Remender delivers and excellent script filled with brilliant dialogue and Wes Craig delivers some pretty amazing art. If you haven't checked out Deadly Class yet then you are doing yourself a disservice.

Detective Comics (2011) #34

Aug 10, 2014

The art in this book is some of the best in comics today. That by itself is a reason to pick this book up. For the most part, Icarus has been a fun, exciting ride, but Manapul and Buccellato crash in the end because DC didn't give them the room they needed to land. That said, this creative team till has me excited about the future of this title and I can't wait to read more.

Detective Comics (2011): Futures End #1

Sep 9, 2014

This book is the prime example with what is wrong with DC's yearly special one-shot issues. It was hastily put together and just plain sucks. Come on, guys. I expect better. At least Batman kind of had a beard.

Flash (2011) #32

Jun 27, 2014

The story isn't bad, per se. It has some interesting ideas, but most of them just plain didn't work. Patty getting pissed at Barry for hunting down the serial killer and taking an at risk kid to a baseball game was just stupid. It was just an artificial way to raise the emotional stakes of the book, and it was just bad. The writers still haven't given me a reason to care about Wally other than the fact he shares a name with a popular speedster that i like. The time travel stuff is cool, but underdeveloped. There is just something missing that will click all of this together and make it great. Until then, it is just okay.

Godzilla: Cataclysm #1

Green Arrow (2011) #33

Jul 8, 2014

I really love Andrea Sorrentino's art, so that is a plus to me, but I know the art can be divisive for others. Other than that, this book is pretty great. It might fall into the problem eventually of just making everything too dire and sucking all the fun out of the proceedings, but right now Lemire has hit a comfortable middle ground.

Green Arrow (2011): Futures End #1

Sep 8, 2014

If you are following Future's End or just a fan of the Lemire/ Sorrentino run on Green Arrow, then you should pick this book up. It actually ties in pretty well with the Future's End story overall and parts of it had some awesome fan service to those who have been actually following Green Arrow. At least one DC one-shot this month is worth getting.

Green Lantern (2011) #33

Jul 8, 2014

The ending to this issue is just terrible. They basically end the entire Uprising story in this issue in a satisfying way only to have another lantern pop up out of no where to tell us something else is wrong in the most vague way possible. This really just does nothing but piss me off. It's a very poor hook to get me to buy Green Lantern Corp next week that would not have worked if I didn't already pull it every month. Its a good thing this issue was just one long fight scene because the issue would have been terrible if that kind of sloppy witting was present throughout the book. I've also never really found the Durlans to be that compelling, so their defeat here, while fun to watch, didn't really resonate with me in any profound way.

Green Lantern Corps (2011) #33

Jul 13, 2014

This was a really good issue in my opinion. It doesn't completely wash away the bad taste that Uprising as a whole has put in my mouth, but it was still really good. The art was great as usual as well as the story, even though it did suffer from some bad dialogue.

Green Lantern: New Guardians #32

Jun 20, 2014

Overall, not a bad book. Its missing Kyle which is a bummer and Carol constantly nagging the Guardians can get a little annoying, but overall this was a solid issue that set up what is hopefully an amazing issue 33. If you are a Lantern fan, then pick this one up.

Guardians of the Galaxy (2013) #17

Aug 2, 2014

I want to like this book. I really do. Bendis knows the characters' voices and they are really fun to read. Now he just needs to give them something exciting to do. That's really a minor problem, though, compared to the art department. Marvel really needs to get a handle on that before its too late.

Infinity Man And The Forever People #2

Jul 14, 2014

The ideas inside this book is interesting and the shocker on the first page is cool to see. Unfortunately, this is all buried underneath an incredibly uninteresting script. Maybe over time this book can find its footing and be fun, but this is the New 52 we are talking about and this book is not going to have that time.

Justice League (2011) #31

Jun 30, 2014

I don't like the look of the new Power Ring. She looks too much like a flower child hippie to me and I'm sorry, but I just cannot take her seriously as a destroyer of worlds like the Power Ring itself actually says she will be. I'm also afraid the book is about to get way too overcrowded soon. Johns reintroduced a team of heroes in this issue and i'm afraid either they, or more likely the actual Justice League, will be lost in the shuffle of big event storytelling.

Justice League United #3

Jul 15, 2014

I really enjoy this book. Its not overly serious like its predecessor, Justice League of America, and is mainly concerned with just having fun. There are a few story elements that I didn't think was fantastic, but the art was great. You should definitely pick this one up.

Low (2014) #1

Red Lanterns #33

Jul 24, 2014

This is by far the best title in the Green Lantern franchise. This is the best writing and character development that Guy Gardner has received in years and the great writing extends to the extended cast. If you are looking for a ridiculous book filled with compelling antiheroes then this is the book for you.

Robin Rises: Omega #1

Jul 18, 2014

If you can get past the steep admission price and the overtly long recap at the beginning, this is actually a pretty fun book. The is a lot of action, plenty of fun guest stars, and some decent writing. Plus there is Frankenstein. I can't get enough of that guy.

Superior Spider-Man (2013) #32

Swamp Thing (2011) #33

Jul 4, 2014

As I said before, this is the issue where the bad guy reveals his master plan. As such, The Wolf is a little over written this month. None of the dialogue was bad, there was just way too much of it. At parts I thought I was reading a novel instead of a comic. There was also not enough Swamp Thing- Demon action. Show me the cool stuff. Don't tell me about it. These are minor flaws in an otherwise great book and I can't wait for next week.

Teen Titans (2014) #1

Jul 16, 2014

I really wanted to like this book. I'm a fan of Rocafort's work and the Teen Titans really needed a reboot after Lobdell's fiasco with the title. Unfortunately, if thistitle continues with the same quality as this issue then it may need a reboot of the reboot. Teen Titans no go!

The Multiversity #1

Aug 22, 2014

If you love crazy, zany concepts and characters, but also have a semi decent knowledge of DC as a whole, then I would say you should definite pick Multiversity #1 up. If you are brand new to comics, then you might want to wait on reading this one. It is a bit like jumping straight into the deep end and not knowing how to swim. Oh, and the pool has sharks. I like sharks.

The New 52: Futures End #7

Jun 21, 2014

While the Frankenstein-Black Adam fight was fun and the Batman Beyond-Mr. Terrific confrontation may actually set the plot in motion, these two events are still not enough justification to continue buying the book every single week. Not much was said about the art because there is not much to say. Lopresti's art is serviceable. Its not bad, but its not going to blow your socks off either.

Honestly, I thought this book was amazing. Flint and Dille really did a great job with making these action figures compelling. The great art in the big epic scenes more than make up for the questionable art in the quiet moments so this is just a win all around for me. Seriously, guys you should read this.

Void #1

Sep 7, 2014

I'm a sucker for space, psychological horror, and the amazing artwork of Sean Phillips, so Void is right up my alley. If any of those things appeal to you too and you have an extra ten bucks in your pocket then I highly recommend this book. It is dark, disturbing, and yet still a lot of fun.
