So much of this book was enjoyable that it's hard to pick out favorite moments. The Justice League is seeing some big changes. Geoff Johns is taking seeds he planted during FOREVER EVIL and making this book evolve into the next level. With the developments of a new Power Ring, Lex Luthor, Captain Cold, and Shazam being on the team, plus Lex's latest discovery, the team is going to have to find time to deal with all that when they're not fighting the villains. Doug Mahnke's art and Rod Reis' colors make this intriguing story even better. I may not agree with one of the developments in particular but I can't deny being hooked to this book. Read Full Review

I'm not sure if I'm ashamed to tell you that I'm giddy after reading this issue.  Well fuck it, shame doesn't really matter after what Geoff Johns and Doug Mahnke have given us right here.  Is it safe to assume that Geoff Johns is some kind of magic man?  Everything that guy touches makes me into a kid again, and makes me feel like I'm reading my first comic.  So after you're done reading all my praise and slobbering over this book and the creators, make sure you go get this issue.  Act like it's the single most important thing you have to do because it's well worth it, and after if you feel it wasn't all that important for you to read then you are obviously dead inside and superhero comics aren't for you.  Is that straight forward enough?  Go get this issue. Johns and Mahnke are a creative duo that highlight the best of what is coming from DC right now. Johns' Justice League is stronger than it has ever been, and Mahnke is continuing the tradition of strong artwork that has been laid down by Ivan Reis. Luthor fans will be over the moon with this issue, and I would bet that most anyone who reads this comic will leave it a Luthor fan. Even though there was not much action the issue was packed withgreat information, and as always the comedy between league members was great. I can't say thatnot having a lot of action is a bad thing, I just like action. But I can tell that this story feels like it is headed to a fast, action packed place. Justice League #31 is a ton of fun, simple as that. Instead of jumping in to a Justice League that includes Lex Luthor and Captain Cold (who also gets a fantastic sequence in this issue), Johns is taking the time to flesh out the events that lead to these unorthodox new alliances. Some readers take issue with Johns' decompressive style of storytelling, but for this "Injustice League" arc, it's a fitting flow that makes sense. If this is going to be the status quo for the Justice League for a while, it's important to make sure the foundation is laid well, and Johns is doing just that. Read Full Review

The debut of the new Power Ring has been a long time coming, especially considering the glimpse we got waaaay back in Green Lantern #20 (look it up!). The ring's newest victim, Jessica Cruz, is interesting enough, the brief backstory we get appropriately depressing. Even the meeting at issues end has been seemingly on the books, effectively promising our first real look at what the new Power Ring can do. Meanwhile, Jessica Cruz as Power Ring is fully functional! Finally, a character that's teased for the longest time finally make her first in-story appearance as the Power Ring. We also learned a bit about her backstory, and why she's locking herself up in her room. Also, we got our first revelationof the new Doom Patrol lineup in this issue, and it's full of members I actually recognized (Elasti-Woman, Negative Man and Robotman). Johns' Justice League has been consistently very good throughout his run and it seems like he is setting the pieces up again to continue strong. Doug Mahnke's pencils fit in nicely and blended well to what we had been getting from Reis. There were many pieces to the puzzle this month, but I continue to be on board for the ride. I don't like the look of the new Power Ring. She looks too much like a flower child hippie to me and I'm sorry, but I just cannot take her seriously as a destroyer of worlds like the Power Ring itself actually says she will be. I'm also afraid the book is about to get way too overcrowded soon. Johns reintroduced a team of heroes in this issue and i'm afraid either they, or more likely the actual Justice League, will be lost in the shuffle of big event storytelling. Read Full Review

For a team comprised of the best characters of the DC Universe, it felt for far too long that the Justice League was ignoring its premium asset, instead using these properties as window dressing to justify B-list villains or indulgent subplots. That's not to say that Johns doesn't still have some ways to go before he gets to that kind of perfect character balance he had writing Avengers or Justice Society of America - after all, characters like Superman and Wonder Woman get short shrift, and Flash and Aquaman are completely MIA in favor of an abrupt cliffhanger - but all the same, this is a very different writer than the one we've seen lately. It's a writer who doesn't just care about his characters, but demonstrates why we should, too. Here's hoping this Geoff Johns sticks around for the long haul. Read Full Review

Overall this was great issue. We see more of the new Power Ring as well as the new Doom Patrol. Jones is doing a wonderful job balancing the big superheroics with the more personal character moments. This arc specifically has done a great job at ending each issue with a big moment to reel the reader in. This is once again an issue that will make you anxious for next month. Read Full Review

The Justice League is held to a higher standard, as it should be. It's the flagship of the entire DC line. While it is clearly a team in transition, it still has high expectations. Those are missed in this issue, but the last page gives us a "fist pump" moment that we can expect to play out over the next few issues. The main plot of this issue felt off, but the smaller scenes make up for those misses. The direction of this book is changing. When the new, post-Forever Evil team finally comes together, the story should pick up. It seems the Justice League now has a two-tiered conflict upcoming, which could go either way. Will we get the heights of Throne of Atlantis or the doldrums of Trinity War? Read Full Review
