Batman / Dylan Dog (2024) #2

This comic took me by surprise. It isn't necessarily a great Batman comic, but it is a wonderful Dylan Dog comic. If you are looking for a creative horror comic with some Gotham flavor, this series has been a lot of fun so far. |

Batman / Dylan Dog (2024) #3

I really hope that some folks will come across Batman/Dylan Dog and end up deciding to get into Italian horror comics. While it has its flaws, this series is a loving homage to an obscure occult character that I wouldn't have been familiar with otherwise. For that alone, this comic is worth reading. If you were on the fence about this series up to this point, I'd encourage you to track it down and give it a try. There's nothing quite like the magic of finding a great new character. |

While it can occasionally feel like this series is moving a little too fast for its own good, it nonetheless achieves an emotional impact and crafts a compelling new origin for one of the most interesting characters in the Bat's rogues-gallery. |

This is the best series I'm reading right now, and this issue continued to showcase Wilson's knack for dialogue. I hope that this level of quality is sustainable now that this origin is essentially over. |

Poison Ivy (2022) #22

I love Poison Ivy as a character and I appreciate this creative team deeply. Unfortunately, this issue isn't as strong as the sum of its parts and leaves me decidedly underwhelmed. One can only hope that this series catches a second wind after this unmercifully long arc comes to an end. |

If you've been sticking with this series, you should definitely read the conclusion of Wilson's new origin for such an iconic member of Batman's rogues gallery. The last page leaves readers of quite a cliff-hanger, and for all the complaints I've had about how drawn out this story has been as of late, I still think that this arc came to a satisfying conclusion. |

After a few issues that overstayed their welcome, this conclusion of a major part of the titular character's story makes all the patience readers invested worth it. I can confidently say that this is one of the best things I've read by a major publisher this year. |

After the end of a brilliant arc that I genuinely loved, I'm heartened to see that this comic is still headed in a great direction. While this special issue is mostly comprised of a series of contained stories, it offers just enough hints at an interesting continued narrative to make this more than just a one-off filler issue. |

Ba and O'Halloran are a great pairing and kick-off this miniseries on a strong note. In a DC publishing lineup absolutely saturated with Bat-family stories, this one justifies its existence with an enjoyable juxtaposition of angst and coziness. |

The Boy Wonder (2024) #2

Maybe it's just because I'm a struggling twenty-something, but Jason's sense of listlessness and failure really hit me. In a comics landscape that can feel dominated by useless events and gimmicks, Boy Wonder is exploring emotional themes with a novel parable-like structure. While I don't want to get too excited just two issues in, this mini will be required reading for any Robin fan if this quality is sustained to the end. |

The Boy Wonder (2024) #3

I wish that this issue explored Tim's origins like the last two did for Dick and Jason. Instead we're set up for the penultimate chapter in this story with a pretty standard mystery plot punctuated with some clumsy social commentary. I still have high hopes for this comic, and I understand the occasional necessity of writers moving the plot along at the expense of character exploration. It would be great if Tim Drake was highlighted later along so that we get a more fleshed-out picture of the main cast of Robins. |

I've been a huge fan of Robin all my life, but I really haven't seen many stories that give Damian his just due. Boy Wonder achieves that while also crafting a compelling story of interfamilial and intergenerational conflict. Ba's work leaves me excited for what's still to come. |

My most nostalgic comic book memories are of reading Chuck Dixon's Robin run as a teenager. Boy Wonder recaptured some of that magic for me. I loved the episodic structure highlighting each Robin, and the way that Ba clearly has reverence for each of these characters. I don't think there's been such a great Bat family comic in the last two years. |

Great art, combined with some sharp dialogue choices, makes this a fun read. However, Titans suffers from larger structural and characterization issues which make me worried about the viability of this arc moving forward. |

Titans (2023) #10

This is a fun comic. It's unfortunate that Titans has been a little repetitive and formulaic over ten issues, but none of it has felt tedious. If you are a fan of these characters I think you'll agree that this issue is a good time even if it doesn't introduce many new ideas. |

Titans (2023) #11

I'm at the point where this series is being graded on a curve for me. If I felt invested in this story, the flaws with this issue would feel disappointing. But Taylor hasn't given readers much emotionally resonant material to work with up to this point, so I picked up this comic simply hoping to have a decent time, and that was achieved. Meyer's art combined with the novelty of learning more about a recently introduced character kept my attention. |

I like to think of myself as a relatively patient person, but my ability to stick with Titans is continually tested by how repetitive it is. I've already read this mind control story by Taylor and it wasn't all that engaging the first time around. If you are a major fan I suppose this story is worth reading if you are a completionist, but besides that this series is in a completely forgettable state right now. |
