Buffy: The Last Vampire Slayer (2023) #2

Sep 5, 2023

The second installment of Gillys story arc has us wondering if Buffy can ever let go of being the Slayer and finally relax and enjoy a normal life. Gillys writing brings out the realism buried in this supernatural world. I am sure people can relate to grieving a part of themselves that no longer fits who they are now, feeling lost and looking for our purpose. Whether youre a teenager or having a midlife crisis, we all struggle to figure out our place in the world. Roigs art has a great attention for detail, highlighting the complexity of emotions these characters are dealing with. I am anxious to see how the events from this issue unravel the fates of our heroines.

Buffy: The Last Vampire Slayer (2023) #3

Oct 5, 2023

Buffy and Thess are still dealing with their personal dramas and the whole slayer/life balance conundrum. If Buffy is any example, Thess is just starting to scratch the surface on how being the Slayer complicates every other aspect of your life.Roig & Izzo team up to deliver us stunning art that makes you feel like you are back in Sunnydale.Their work along with Martinelli dynamic color scheme have us creeping in the shadows and seedy underbelly of Santa Carmen.Gilly throws us a new layer to our story and it is giving me some major Mayor Wilkins vibes, so I am anxious to see what other twists and turns Gilly has in store for our slayer in training.

Captain Marvel: Dark Tempest (2023) #4

Oct 5, 2023

Nocenti has taken us on a wild ride so far. Nitro and Nada keep shelling out the hits. The Feral Five dont want to be tamed. Blake and his bot are about to cross a line that cant be uncrossed.  Our hero still needs to get back to Earth before Nada unleashing her masterplan. Nocenti and Villanelli have spent this issue setting up the suspense of the finale that you can cut the tension with a knife. The fifth and final issue of this story arc is coming in November and I know we are going to be in for an explosive ending that I cant wait to read.

Captain Marvel: Dark Tempest (2023) #5

Nov 9, 2023

Nocenti and team have delivered us a wild ride. They definitely created a powerhouse duo in Nada and Nitro, giving us a villain that can take down Captain Marvel and another who can cripple mankind without needing to launch a Thanos style war.The introduction of the Feral Five has been intriguing to watch these new characters develop and come into their powers. They are on a delicate balancing act that can tip the scales into being heroes or villains. While this is the end of this chapter, I am expecting to see new story arcs form around these new characters.Thank you, Ann & Paolo for bringing to life some fresh faces and taking us on this exhilarating adventure with Earths Mightiest Hero.If you want more Captain Marvel, check out her glam up and new storyline from Alyssa Wong.

Ms. Marvel: The New Mutant (2023) #1

Aug 30, 2023

Vellanis first comic writing experience is taking us down an intense path into what is next for Ms. Marvel. I love the humanity that shows through in the writing, making us connect and relate to the emotions Kamala is dealing with. The moment between Kamala and Bruno where she tells him the truth about what happened to her and revealing she is also a mutant is a beautiful example of this. The artwork in this scene brings the awkwardness, nervousness, and love and the friendship between these two just shines. It was one of my favorite scenes because of how relatable it is. I cant wait to see what is up next for the newest mutant and how the threads woven in Ms. Marvel connect to Fall of X.

Scarlet Witch (2023) #9

Oct 20, 2023

Tammetta, Pichelli, and team knocked it out of the park again with their stunning art. This issue took on a different dynamic than the previous ones. Orlando took us on a ride through various snippets of Wandas dealings instead of giving us one centralized story of a single character/villain that we have come to expect of those coming through the Last Door. Though I felt like there wasnt a strong character development in this issue, it was a nice touch to go back and revisit the familiar faces of Ganymeade, Hippolyta, Quicksilver & Luna. However, I am curious if these flashes circling back to these specific characters are leading up to something more, and the ending with Joseph and Hexfinder definitely left a cliffhanger that has me excited for issue #10.
