Being new to slaying doesn't mean that Thess likes being infantilized, especially by an over-protective demon named Anya, who's controlling at every turn.

But concerning Cora Devonshire-Thess's current crush-is there any validity to Anya's suspicion?

As she and Cora get closer, Thessaly's flippancy and resentment might just get the best of her though, when she takes on a job from the Watcher's Council, and is pursued by some admittedly sexy stalkers...

Gilly continues to do an exemplary job of giving readers both the human emotion and the supernatural thrills which made Buffy a pop culture phenomenon. Between Buffy's grief and Thess' raw emotion there's a lot to contend with but Gilly and artist Oriol Roig make it a delight with the turn of every page. Read Full Review

The second installment of Gillys story arc has us wondering if Buffy can ever let go of being the Slayer and finally relax and enjoy a normal life. Gillys writing brings out the realism buried in this supernatural world. I am sure people can relate to grieving a part of themselves that no longer fits who they are now, feeling lost and looking for our purpose. Whether youre a teenager or having a midlife crisis, we all struggle to figure out our place in the world. Roigs art has a great attention for detail, highlighting the complexity of emotions these characters are dealing with. I am anxious to see how the events from this issue unravel the fates of our heroines. Read Full Review

Despite the wrinkles, it all rings a little too familiar to be genuinely exciting, and the busy artwork makes it hard to connect with the characters. However, it at least feels like a story built on firmer ground than some of the Buffy comics that preceded it. Read Full Review

Comic Book Revolution - Kevin Lainez Sep 7, 2023

Buffy: The Last Vampire Slayer #2 falters in trying to recreate Sunnydale with its new setting. That led to Thessaly journey as a Slayer tough to connect with as her story relies to much on the old rather than new that the concept of this series provides. Buffy's identity crisis as a former Slayer is an interesting one but can only carry half of this story. Improvements certainly need to be made in the next issue to recover from this.
