True Blood #3

Jul 26, 2012

The artwork was simple and clean, but provided few distinctions amongst the characters to help the reader learn the cast. Perhaps this isa result of the restraints of working in an established and popular franchise. Overall, the book failed to catch my interest, and only left me confused.

Star Trek: The Next Generation / Doctor Who: Assimilation² #2

Jun 30, 2012

This crossover falls short of its' potential, and I believe would leave both StarTrek and Doctor Who fans disappointed.

However, this issue would only seem to appeal to diehard fans, and would seemingly not work to garner new readers.

Grimm Fairy Tales: Myths and Legends #17

Jun 2, 2012

I read wanting the end to come, without any feeling of suspense building. The issue might appeal to those who enjoy myth based readings, but I feel would not appeal to casual readers.

Grimm Fairy Tales: Myths and Legends #18

Jul 16, 2012

The angle of following a documentary film crew pursuing things of mythos is not a newtale, but one that works if told right. Overall, Zenescope is telling it right. If they could find away to work in some exciting and creative twists, it would push the book up a notch.

Artifacts #27

May 3, 2013

The artwork is well done, very much in the style of the Witchblade family of books. This was a strong issue, and an easy jumping on point for a new reader.

Judge Dredd #5

Mar 27, 2013

Both the primary and back-up stories are entertaining and well-written. The art is fun, and very true to the classic Dredd/2000AD style. It adds to the story, without distracting from the flow. It left me wanting more, and anxious for the next issue to see where the story will take me.

Mind the Gap #9

Apr 4, 2013

The book was a quick read, and left the reader feeling somewhat empty. The story had more of a backup feel, and didnt have the weight of a typical Jim McCann story. Hopefully issue #10 sees the return of McCanns storytelling coupled with McDaids art. While the side trip of issue #9 is entertaining in many aspects, it falls short of Mind the Gaps usual spectacular pieces.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2011) #11

Jun 30, 2012

The newest run from IDW is a great read. It contains the action and grittinessof the early Mirage Studios comics, and balances with a bit of the colorfulness andfun of the later books and cartoons. Writer Tom Waltz keeps true to the history of thefranchise, while keeping the campiness in check.

KISS #1

Jun 13, 2012

Hats off to IDW on the start of this series. While it might not have the hype that surrounded thered ink laced with KISS members' blood like the Marvel books of the 1970's, this is truly a captivatingnew chapter in KISS marketing!

KISS #2

Overall, a strong job" the material is not the easiest to write a story with. With a conclusion seemingly drawn on the first story of the series, and the seedplanted for the second, it will be curious to see where IDW take the series from here.

Lord of the Jungle #6

Jul 26, 2012

This issue leaves us with new tensions that have arisen, and you feel sorry for Tarzan, while simultaneously feeling optimistic. The dual sense of hope and despair laid out by Nelson is wonderfully done. An enjoyable read that just seems to get better each issue.

Invincible Universe #1

Apr 10, 2013

The story is well written and draws you in. You can feel the tension between Grayson and Steadman, and it makes you want to continue reading future issues to see where that leads. The art is strong, nothing spectacular, but well done for a superhero book.

Thief of Thieves #13

Apr 17, 2013

The artwork is well done and helps to tell the story well. The numerous scenes of action and violence are well portrayed. The writing by James Asmus is strong. The story has multiple items happening throughout the issue, and the art and story seam together well to keep things straight. The book is enjoyable, although it may take a few issues for a new reader to catch up on the happenings.

Jirni #1

Apr 26, 2013

The artwork by Paolo Pantalena is gorgeous! It is truly a wonderful fantasy-styled book, perfect for the story and characters. JT Krul does an amazing job of introducing the characters to us, making us long for Ara to find her answers, and causing us to hurt when young Nylese losses her father. The book is deeply entertaining and well crafted. With is also having a cover price of $1 as part of Aspen's special "10 For 10" celebration, you cannot go wrong with giving it a try. If you're a fan of fantasy books and tales of mystical worlds, then Jirni is for you!
