Morbius: The Living Vampire (2013) #7

Jul 21, 2013

There is nothing remotely good or interesting about this issue or this title. Morbius is dead. I want my $2.99 back.

Powers: Bureau #5

Jul 12, 2013

Powers: Bureau seems like an after-thought. Bendis and Oeming have failed to maintain the high standard of storytelling and quirky, interesting art that characterized this series. This series seems rudderless with story elements coming and going and genres being thrown out and then dropped, ridiculous story conventions and characters looking for an exit strategy.

Powers: Bureau #6

Jul 23, 2013

A frustrating and unsatisfactory conclusion to the worst story arc in any of the Powers adventures. Bendis hints at some interesting story threads but if his intention is to develop them into stories like this most recent arc, I'll save my money.

47 Ronin #5

Aug 6, 2013

A faithful "Classics Illustrated" version of the famous story that won't offend anyone but won't make anyone run out to rent the movie either.

Avengers Assemble #17

Jul 20, 2013

Largely uneventful, although action-filled chapter in a storyline that feels artificially constructed. It is doubtful that any character will grow or develop or reveal anything new about themselves in any meaningful way through this exercise.

Venom (2011) #38

Aug 5, 2013

Questions continue to plague this title. Philadelphia's "dark avenger" is living in a generic and colorless version of the city because neither he nor his writer has spent much time there. There seems to be little reason to dress up Flash Thompson in a black battle symbiote and have him run around Philadelphia. Why not Chicago or Detroit? What is the point?

Crossed: Badlands #32

Jul 15, 2013

An honest, earnest and painful reminder of the costs of remaining human and the inevitability of evolution.

Another very interesting chapter in this fascinating character study diminished by mediocre artwork.

Constantine (2013) #5

Jul 24, 2013

Hard core Hellblazer fans should forget all about Justice League Dark and really give Constantine a chance. The character is still important and Fawkes is doing a good job in keeping the character true to his roots as a damaged and fascinating anti-hero in Constantine.

Jennifer Blood #29

Another great chapter in an exciting and fun read marred by sub-par artwork.

The Fearless Defenders #7

Aug 2, 2013

Hopefully, Bunn's script will continue to respect the character's motivations and inner voice that are on display with this issue. To those fans that dropped this title after issue #3, this seems like a good time give it another chance.

Red Team #4

Jul 30, 2013

A very, very good book. The ending is a little murky as to what exactly happened and why Trudy decided to do what she did instead of what most people would have done and why her team members elected to do what they did.

Thanos Rising #4

Jul 19, 2013

Highly refined and multilayered origin for a very important Marvel villain. The pathos and melodrama may be a bit much for some readers.

Daredevil: Dark Nights #3

Aug 7, 2013

Weeks has hit a home run with this wonderful story. Daredevil fans should not miss this outstanding addition to this great character's mythos.

Ten Grand #4

Aug 12, 2013

Fans of supernatural pulp and romance will love this exploration of hyper-religious supernatural and the occult, as will JMS and Templesmith fans.
