Hawkeye (2012) #20

All in all: Hawkeye is one of those comics that reminds me why I still love the medium. And Hawkeye #20 is a perfect issue of a really spectacular series. |

Sex Criminals #7

This month's issue spells out for us in capital letters that Jon is NOT OKAY. From the blank pictures to the actual breaking and entering, we're beginning to see that Jon is both out of touch with his own actions and with the reality around him, and it's unclear if he really has a desire to amend that. Which is not necessarily his fault, as he is struggling with a very real mental illness, but someone needs to lend him a helping hand, and I'm not sure Susan is really in a place where she can pull him up instead of getting pulled down instead. |

Overall, a great issue that captures the pure heart and strong will of the most adorable alien princess in comics. |

Batgirl (2011): Futures End #1
Sep 12, 2014 |
Then we're reminded by a blurb at the bottom of the page that next month will have an all-new story and a new creative team, and the League of Batgirls will go back to nonexistence. Ah yes. How could I have been so silly to hope? I'll miss you, League of Batgirls. I'll miss you so much. |

Gotham Academy (2014) #1

If you're interested in a fresh narrative that both acknowledges and subverts the tropes of academia in literature, plus is really adorably drawn and has a pretty cool female protagonist, I definitely recommend starting this book. |

I'd like to take a moment to talk about the real star of this series, though: Agent Maria Hill, who has been the rock of this entire series. While I originally picked up the book because of Phil Coulson, Hawkeye, and Black Widow, it's Maria Hill's sharp wit and no-nonsense attitude that's really made the book something substantial. The story never fails to remind us that this is Maria Hill's team, and that she is the one pulling the reins, here. Last month, we found out that she's been playing MODOK this entire time, waiting for him to slip up. We're not entirely sure what her plan is going to be from here, but we know that she has one. |

Uncanny X-Men (2013) #25
Sep 5, 2014 |
Overall, a solid issue that I think really conveys the tension in the X-Men. Scott is realizing, now of all times, that his mentor wasn't perfect, and the rest of the X-Men are starting to understand that they might have to become a bit more morally grey. I don't know if next month will be able to keep up the stakes of this issue, but I hope it does. |

This entire issue has left me feeling very unclean. I hate when that happens. |
