Things reach a breaking point for Mitchell as an ultimatum forces him to choose between his family and revenge spree-killing in a slightly-burnt chicken-in-a-devil-suit. But will his fellow Chicken Devils let him walk away after ONE LAST job?
The seriousness of the drama really hits at the end of the issue. The story ends with the fifth issue. Things have gotten out of control. And yet everything still feels so static and isolated. Its a very nuanced and complicated drama. The physical action is really only there to amplify it in various directions. Buccellato and Monaco have something interesting in the series. Its the type of story that could easily be made as an indie drama or a one-season streaming series. Chicken Devils is inching closer to that finale and it's taking a long time to get there. The first issue came out back in October and it's been a long slog for the five issues – with one more issue still to come from that five. This one does the heavy liting to setup for it but that means it gets bogged down in some of the dialogue and putting everyone in the right place for what's to come. It's not bad and we do get a fun action sequence to it, but the character-driven aspect of it slows down events overall when you just want to get to the fireworks factory. It continues to read well and look great so it's a fun experience, one that I again believe will work better when read in full. Read Full Review
Got to feel bad for Mitch. It's whacky, it's violent, it's just always entertaining.
