Forced to face the consequences of his recent actions, Reggie also confronts his most painful crisis as we learn Vader's fate. Plus: Big Moose lashes back! Midge makes a startling revelation! Betty makes a daring movie and Archie gathers the gang for a climax you won't want to miss!
Reggie & Me was far more fun than I was expecting it to be, especially with the narrative coming from Vader's point of view. There was a lot to like in seeing Reggie discover more about those he's known his whole life while also seeing someone completely and utterly loyal to him as well, providing for some balance so that it's not entirely against him the whole time. Tom Defalco captured a lot of what makes Reggie tick in all the right ways, reminding me why I liked his work decades ago so much, while Sandy Jarrell definitely hits a sweet spot with the artwork in terms of character designs and world setting. Paired with Kelly Fitzpatrick, everything fits into the current Archie model without it being ripped from the pages of it, getting its own style and feel. This is a very fun series overall and definitely worth checking out. Read Full Review
One thing that has continued to be great and good in this book is Sandy Jarrell’s artwork. His people may not be as “tasty” and well-rounded as some of the classic Archie artists’ were, but I love his animals. Vader and Hot Dog both felt like real pups that you could reach through the page and give belly skritches. I also really dig what he does with Reggie’s expressions in particular. The sharpness of his features and the way Jarrell draws him still reminds me of a very young Negan, and that seems appropriate for his personality too. It seems pretty clear that the creative team here is intending to revisit this version of Reggie; I hope it’s sooner rather than later, and I hope they make him more sympathetic next time around. This is a really heartwarming issue that shows us a lot about how strong the friendships in Archie really are. Even amongst the most unlikely of friends, there is still respect. These characters are some seriously kind-hearted people with good intentions. Except for Reggie, so it'll be interesting to see what he's got up his sleeve. As Vader says, Riverdale is headed towards "tears and fears." Keep reading to see what happens! Read Full Review
It's not a story on par with others in the Riverdale fold, but it does serve as a mostly satisfying end to a solid tale. Read Full Review
(spoilers)
Omg why did they lead us to believe that Vader would die and then fake us out? That was such a cheap move. There are other problems with the writing and characterization too. The art is still decent, but it can't save this book. It started off promising in issue one and then just crashed and burned. Maybe cutting it down to a five parter instead of an ongoing hurt it too much.
