A fantastic introduction into this iteration of Sonic. We get a very large cast of characters, motivations, worldbuilding and everyone feels fleshed out in just the first issue. Antoine is a stuffed shirt who is jealous of Sonic but still wants to do the right thing, Rotor is a lovable tech wiz, Sally is assertive and while Sonic grates on her, she secretly harbors feelings for him. The list goes on. With the backstory to the main plot in the latter half of the issue we see Sonic's Uncle Chuck and the chain of events leading to Sonic's joining up of the Knothole Freedom Fighters. Despite only taking 11 pages to do so, we get a very heart wrenching story of Sonic's loss of his uncle and dog to Robotnik becoming the catalyst for his eventual more
