While Galveston is an odd bit of history, this series seems to be moving in the direction of a fun rogue's tale, rather than some sort of hard-biting look at the piracy days of old, so anyone looking for a comment on LaFitte and Bowie's involvement in the slave trade will be disappointed. In the end, I'd keep my eye on Galveston as, despite its flaws, it does tap into a rather interesting and under explored segment in our country's history. Hopefully, with the bogging necessities of introduction already in the books, Stokes can translate her love of history into the exciting action yarn Galveston seems to want to be. Read Full Review
That said, the book doesn't read like a moth-bitten old history tome, but provides a story of two men who share the unspoken bond of friendship. I saw enough in this first issue to want to see the second, but in no way did I see enough to declare this an epic masterpiece. It's a good offbeat read for anyone with a serious pirate deficiency.
