Steven and the Gems set sail on the gem sloop to find and retrieve a gem artifact in a remote location inaccessible by warp pad. They discover the artifact is guarded by a territorial gem monster, who shipwrecks the Crystal Gems in their first attempt to get the artifact. Luckily, Onion and his dad, Yellowtail, are out on a fishing trip and happen upon the Gems at just the right time.

Steven Universe #7 is an upfront romp with an animated series in a monthly format. The creative team nails all the necessary elements without bogging down the release with too much comic book exposition and antics. If you're already a fan of the property than this is absolutely for you, if not trust me you'll still enjoy the ride! So by all means give it a shot and add it to your stuffed pull-list. This isn't the greatest adaptation for sure, but it is an enjoyable romp set in the Steven Universe world and with its main characters. That said, it does feel like the series, and this issue within it, might more targeted to a youthful audience than an adult one with its focus on single story adventures over a narrative arch.
