A menace over 200 years old is back, and plaguing New York City's subway system. Thomas Alsop is on the case, but just barely! The city hates him and even his friends are wondering if he's okay. He has to fight an evil smoke monster so no, he's not okay.
In the beginning I compared the journey of this series to that of climbing a mountain and that remains true. The other hard truth is that my reviews continue to get shorter and shorter as there's less that I can talk about as the story draws to a close, which sucks because I want to talk about this issue more and more! Thomas Alsop has been building up to something big. We're not quite there yet, but the title character has gone through a major transformation in the eyes of the reader. He began as your average spoiled idiot, filled with power that he didn't seem to deserve. Every action he's taken since discovering the trapped souls at Ground Zero has been in an effort to redeem himself for his forefathers and the island itself. Everything is riding on this.
