I could tell almost immediately that Im going to really enjoy Baltimore: The Curse Bells, which follows Lord Henry Baltimores single minded hunt for one particular vampire through Europe in 1916. Baltimores motivations are very personal, though that doesnt stop him from taking time out to destroy any other unholy creatures that cross his path, and apparently Europe is riddled with them. In general this series in one of the best from Dark Horse Comics and if you missed out on Plague Ships then do yourself a favor and don't miss out on The Curse Bells. With a strong narrative that recaps the origin of Lord Baltimore I guarantee you won't be lost in the story, then if you like what you read you can always pick up the first series on Dark Horse's digital app. Read Full Review
This series emanates style, creating, in a single issue, a desolate and despairing Europe that is besieged by a menace that few believe in and even fewer can face. Story-wise, of course, this isn't a vast remove from the usual Hellboy stuff"monster killer kills monsters against gothic old-world backdrop. Mignola's a guy who knows what he does well, and is happy to keep working in that mode. It seems his fans are happy to see him doing this as well, so if you're one, you know what to expect. STEPHEN: Bottom line for me... I like it. The first series seemed to take a while to get started, but here, the action is right in our face. The art is okay, but it seems that this is the style we get in every Mignola penned book where he doesn't do the art. It works, and it is a recognizable look, but in the end, I wouldn't mind seeing something new. Overall, Baltimore: The Curse Bells #1 gets 3.5 Stars out of 5 from me. Read Full Review
