This is certainly one of the better books out this week, and it seems that anything Mike Mignola and John Arcudi work on is really rather impressive. Great pacing to this story; the writers let on just enough information to hook the reader without giving anything away. Fantastic art (great pencils and colors). Thios is definitely a three part mini-series I cannot wait to continue reading. Read Full Review

"B.P.R.D. Hell on Earth: The Devil's Engine" #1 is another strong "B.P.R.D." comic in general, but it also feels like a good a place as any to check out the series if you aren't already. "B.P.R.D. Hell on Earth" is a tense little horror comic, and this new installment lives up to that reputation. Good stuff. Read Full Review
As much as I enjoy Hellboy comics, this one fell flat. While it's true that I lacked some essential background information, I feel that even if I did know the events leading up to this series, I'd still find this boring. It's not a bad comic per se, but there's nothing exciting or arresting going on. It's bland. Hopefully the series will pick up with the second and third issues. Read Full Review
No one really needs this issue. Not the characters. Not the readers. Not even the story as presented. There is no way anyone new to the B.P.R.D. series can pick up this issue and have a hope of understanding what's going on. While long-time readers aren't going to experience any real forward progression of the over-all story; save the last couple of pages. Most of the content found within The Devil's Engine #1 could have been trimmed down to a few extra pages and included in a denser installment. Decompressed storytelling has its place, but this issue reads like filler and won't satisfy anyone. This is a well-written comic that is expertly illustrated. Overall, this mini started disjointed for me. The story does not set up what is going on for a first issue and it left me with a whole lot of questions as to what is going on in this first part of the story. The characters in this issue were not very engaging nor did they make me care for them. Hopefully issue two explains what is going on otherwise I might just have to drop it. Read Full Review
