But personally it is the little scenes that I am appreciating the most in B.P.R.D. Hell on Earth and specifically in this new mini-series, The Long Death. Dark Horse has been building up to something big for awhile now, and 2012 promises to be a complete game-changer in Mignola's shadow-haunted universe. I don't know if anyone needs a review for B.P.R.D., but I sure enjoy talking aboutthe book. I try to keep the spoilers lite so that the book is still enjoyable,but it's becoming increasingly difficult with this series as "Hell on Earth"continues and we approach "Hellboy in Hell." I can't say that this book is thebest to start on for new readers since I've been reading it for a year now, butI can say that it recaps the last series very well and hints about everythingelse happening in the world. If you still haven't checked out anything from theHellboy-verse I encourage you to give this book a shot. It's some of the bestserial storytelling in comics today. Read Full Review
The Dark Horse's B.P.R.D. line consistently puts out some of the best stuff in comics, and it fills a horror-themed comics niche that few of the other big publishers were doing well (up until Animal Man and Swamp Thing). Right now isn't the most forgiving time for new readers storyline-wise, but it is definitely worth it to catch up to what is going on presently in the Hellboy universe. The Long Death is a strong start to what promises to be another great arc, and it's a chance to seefierynew talent James Harren at work. B.P.R.D. Not the best start for a new series, but it has a lot of good will. There's dread and atmosphere a plenty, but it's all very familiar: Special forces team is sent to deal with supernatural threat and most of the team is wiped out, leaving a mismatched duo to fend for themselves while hashing out personal problems. It's competently done, but the maudlin mood and murky art isn't welcoming for new readers, and can't manage to recreate the old spirit for fans. Read Full Review
