Horror DNA - James Ferguson Jan 9, 2018

Giants is like The Warriors meets Godzilla. You'll come for the giant monsters and stay for the compelling character development. We don't know how or why these creatures have taken over the planet and it doesn't matter. What is important is how Gogi and Zedo are going to survive and what will happen when they meet again. The story for Giants is building slowly but surely with what it's doing here and it's very easy to give into its pacing because it's working both stories well. This issue gives us some accessible paths to follow that should have some twists in the future and there's a lot to like with both of them, especially knowing that they'll intersect again. The familiar aspect is expected this early on in the setup but it's taken to a higher level because of the artwork and color design for it as it's just beautiful stuff here. It does it with such skill and style that I'm hopeful that this is the kind of work that can take on a long life all on its own with so much to explore, and cross into other media because it has that kind of accessibility even just two installments in. I'm beginning to see Giants influences more, but that's not a bad thing. It's a fresh story that's pairing a lot of other concepts into one world. The blending and meshing is interesting, but without a strong story and fantastic artwork, it wouldn't be worth getting invested. I'm vested. I'm very vested and can't wait to see what the Valderrama Bros. have in store next. Read Full Review
