One by one the candles are snuffed out as the ghostly game of dread and terror continues through the never-ending night. Next up, two tales of shocking horror: "The way to a man's heart is through his stomach" takes on a whole new meaning as an accomplished young chef returns to his small-town home from the big city to find insatiable mouths to feed. And in the backroom brigade of a fine French kitchen, an abusive master chef gets what's coming to him in the most unspeakable of manners.
With tremendous art from Sebastian Cabrol and Paul Pope, this is about as good as spooky comics can get. Each issue of this series has outdone its predecessor by upping the ante in the creepiness of the stories. My expectations for the final issue are high, but I've not been let down yet. For all fans of horror comics, Tales from the Darkside, or even The Twilight Zone, this is a book for you. Read Full Review
While Hungry Ghosts as a whole isn't blowing me away, something that is hard for an anthology book to do in general, the series is delivering some good stories with great artists. This issue has a decent first story with the kappa and a solid second story that's surreal but works because Paul Pope takes it to that more outlandish level in all the right ways with the artwork. The end result is a good book of small horrors that tantalizes in the right ways and provides something that's not on the market all that much within the horror genre itself. With one more issue to go this has been a fun opener to get things moving with for the Berger Books line and hopefully a sign of some other genre style anthology works in the future as well. There's nothing here to make this worth $3.99. If you're jonesing for a good horror anthology, check out Creepy, Eerie, Tales from the Crypt, or Grindhouse: Doors Open at Midnight. Trust me, you'll have a much better time. Read Full Review
