A battle between the Black Flame and the iron soldier known as Sledgehammer heats up as the fight over a cutting-edge American warplane explodes in the sky!
The dialogue is peppered sparingly throughout this issue which is a great decision " it allows the action to flow without being interrupted. We can just focus on the hulking, shiny, armoured Sledgehammer battle the Nazi garbed bones of the Black Flame. It may not be the most subtle book but its relentless action, taut script and eye-widening art make it a truly unforgettable one. Read Full Review
If you missed out on the first series and passed on this volume then you really should go back and pick this volume up from the beginning. Not only does the first issue recap the previous two chapters, but it sets up this new character in the Mignolaverse for one hell of a ride. Again, this was the most satisfying comic I read this week and one that any comic fan should check out. Read Full Review
Fantastic conclusion to a fantastic mini-series. I can't believe this is it. It can't be. This was too much fun and the characters way too entertaining. If all involved know what's good for them, Sledgehammer will return. There's just too much Axis evil afoot for this armored giant to be done. Highest possible recommendation. Read Full Review
Rock 'em sock 'em stuff here that makes me want to read more with the character. Job well done by all. Read Full Review
Sledgehammer 44: Lightning War #3 is a strong finish that may not re-write the genre but it had me certainly grinning from ear to ear. Recommended. Read Full Review
Sledgehammer 44 always provides for a great story, and Lightning War has really highlighted the depth that can be achieved with this character. We recently caught up with Laurence Campbell to chat about working in the Mignolaverse (check it out here), and we were quite pleased to hear hed be returning for more B.P.R.D. If youre a fan of the Hellboy universe, or just great comic books in general, check out Lightning War. Read Full Review
A decent issue that wrap ups the arc well. unfortunately it wasnt a very good arc overall. The art was messy and without the level of pulp quality we saw in the previous arc. The writing/plotting was slow and the story overall was meaningless. This just reminded me of mindless, "big2" superhero antics and bashing. I had hoped for more insight or background into the WW2 black flame. At least Dark Horse got a clue and kept the swastika off the cover of this issue. I doubt ill be reading any more Sledgehammer44 in the future.
