Laurence Campbell is a guy we probably don't see enough, so it's a true pleasure to experience his work again. The man delivers one hell of a moody story, filled with darkness and grim. These are broken down and beaten bloody characters, and Campbell shows us that perfectly. WWII was bleak, and this comic " despite being populated with super beings and monsters " really gets that across. Dave Stewart ands to the awesomeness with spectacular color work. The punches of lightning jump off the page, shooting across the night sky. It's really beautiful. Read Full Review

The only people I've meet that didn't like a Mignola book were people who focused too much on what they didn't know about the universe rather than the bounty of information each issue provides you. I've watched as several writers on the site have become more and more invested in the Mignolaverse and they're not the first nor will they be the last. This shared universe is incredible and only grows with time. This issue is no better or worse than all the other Mignola titles, but each Mignola title is so incredible that it's in a league above most other comic books. Read Full Review

    All-Comic - Joey Caswell Dec 18, 2013

Sledgehammer 44 is a really interesting story; while most of the books in the world of Mike Mignola are veiled in mystery, the protagonist of this series is particularly enigmatic. The more cryptic elements consistently surface with interesting allusion, while Lightning War #2 also emphasized the raw action. This was a highly satisfying issue that has me really looking forward to the big showdown next month, which will be just in time for the Black Flames return to the flagship B.P.R.D. title! Mignola seems to be firing them out just now (Hellboy, Abe Sapien, Sledgehammer hes even got a Hellboy short in this months Dark Horse Presents) and the consistency never seems to dip. This story lasts three issues and the setting, characters, plot are all set up well without it ever feeling rushed or skimmed. One more issue to go and there is no way in hell, Im missing it.
