This climactic issue wraps up the story that started sixteen years ago with the very first issue of The Goon. The Goon has hard choices to make. Some live. Some die. And everything changes. Don't miss this major turning point in the Goon mythology.
In a way, this much more serious, much more thorough plotting and character analysis does rob "The Goon" of some of the humor and irrepressible comedic pacing that made the series such a fan favorite. It's an interesting trade though. This is the closest it's felt to self-analysis that the series has ever come and, if anything, it's an intriguing change of pace and style for a series that's so often seemed to pride itself on its own period-piece affectations. The Goon: Once Upon a Hard Time #4 isn't just the end of the mini-series, but possibly the character as whole. As despite there being a Halloween Special out next week, with the Lords of Misery on the horizon, things definitely aren't going to be the same moving forward. Nevertheless it is a must have for fans of the character, and easily one of the best comics out this week. Read Full Review
