Still in deep space, Superman encounters Auron, the superpowered clone of Guardian (first seen in SUPERMAN "The Legacy of Superman" (1993) #1), who possesses some of Superman's DNA. Together they battle an alien malevolence, but Auron is felled by something far more insidious-something connected to Superman himself.
