Recounting the origin story of the most unusual cowboy of them all as young Bat Lash braves a corrupt sheriff and a greedy rancher just to woo a rancher's lovely daughter!
So, while its definitely too early to make a judgment on the series as a whole, the first issue shows some promise of an exciting, enjoyable western series, with nicely-drawn characters (in both senses of the term) and some excellent art. Hopefully it will get even better and become a classic story. Or at least a fun romp through a genre that gets little play these days. Well see how it goes. Read Full Review
At least the art leaves me with few complaints. Granted, it's far less flashy than what we've seen in books like Lone Ranger, but John Severin packs in a pleasing amount of detail into each panel. From a visual standpoint, Bat Lash fits in quite nicely with fellow DC cowpoke Jonah Hex. The story is somewhat less successful so far, but it shouldn't do anything to kill the latest cowboy craze sweeping the industry. Read Full Review
However, the plot and subplot have both been done too often, and putting them together in the same storyRomeo and Juliet of the range waris an obvious notion (and one that has probably been done before in a range war novel or film). Instead of being a fun, fast paced revival of a great character, Bat Lash suffers from a slow plot, the main characters lack of action, and a story riddled with cliches. In a time where old Western characters like Jonah Hex and the Lone Ranger can be brought back with a level of enjoyment, Bat Lash got the short end of the stick. Read Full Review
