Power Girl began as the Earth-Two Supergirl, though she quickly became a fan favorite. After Crisis on Infinite Earths, she lost her identity and her history. Essentially, she became a big boob joke. Artwise, this remains one of DC's strongest titles as Conner continues to put out some of the crispest work in the industry, but unfortunately the writing just doesn't back it up this week thanks to an abrupt plot and the writer's continued struggle to find the right balance for the main character and her many roles. There's nothing inherently bad about this issue--including the characterization--but it's far from a classic. Because of the art, and Conner's clever way with tasteful T&A, I can give this issue an average rating, but surely there's something better to do with Power Girl now that her continuity has been resolved? Power Girl hasn't exactly had the best run in its first six issues but there are things about it that keep drawing me back to it. The main stories involving the Ultra Humanite and then these displaced space girls keeps the series more on the lighter side of things with an element of darkness to it. Humanite at least had a good plan and this arc had some strangely violent instances happening as well as some creepy ways that guys keep hitting on Power Girl and leering at her. When it's just the girls though, either at work or when she's with Atlee, it's far more relaxed, fun and enjoyable as we get a look at their lives outside of superhero duties. While that may not be interesting to some, it's a side of the story I wish we saw more of since it enhances our connections to the characters in the big action scenes. Power Girl has its moments here but it can't save a very sloppy storyline overall. Read Full Review
