Another home run here, Lex figures out how to modify the suns rays on Superman and over amplify it to cause Superman's powers to go haywire and turn him into a danger for everyone. He sends an android named Klaash to fight Superman and have him aim his uncontrolled powers at the city. Lex modified Klaash' infrared to make him invisible to the human eye and only Superman could see him because Lex turned on his infrared vision. So to the city it looked like Superman was aiming his powers and trying to destroy Metropolis of his own volition.

They figure it out and Lex Luthor gets away with it with a really good lawyer.
