In spite of some very…simple…writing and plotting, this is still far better paced, and far better written, than any book under the Grounded story to date. It is by no means great, but it IS competent, and much more fun than Superman has been in recent memory. That's not saying a whole lot, but at least it's a small ray of hope for this much-abused storyline. Read Full Review
If you've really enjoyed all four issues of this arc so far, there's no saying that you won't like this one too. As for myself, I have grown to dislike each issue worse than the last. And the fact that this story isn't finished yet doesn't bode very well for poor Clark Kent. Read Full Review
Its pretty much a disappointment on all fronts, taking us TOO FAR into the realm of the mundane for Superman to even seem relevant (see my remarks on whether making collateral damage part of the story is a good thing in a recent podcast) and doing it clumsily, to boot. Superman #707 earns a very disappointed 1.5 out of 5 stars overall with the core of the problem coming from a concept that just doesnt seem to match the character inhabiting it. Read Full Review
My theory is that the school teacher has been possessed by one of Zod's men in the Phantom Zone. Remember, War of the Supermen ended with all the Kryptonian soldiers being banished to the Zone. Could they all be so evil they deserve that fate? Or was there some 'gray' in their actions such that putting them in the Zone could be construed as 'wrong'. What if this story actually is a counterpoint to War of the Supermen? What if this is to teach Superman the lesson that putting 'innocent' Kryptonians in the Zone was the wrong thing to do? Theories aside, it is getting more and more difficult to read this book. All I want is a true Superman book again. And 'Grounded' isn't it. Read Full Review
