You Don't Read Comics - Russ Bickerstaff Jan 12, 2025

Grnbekk has been framing Sonjas journey with a deep respect for the work of writers who have come before her. There is SOME attempt at advancing things beyond traditional sword and sorcery fantasy, but shes keeping it all firmly grounded in the trappings of the genre in general and Sonjas place n it in particular. Its all quite well-modulated and articulated. Its going to be sad to see this particular story draw to a close next issue. With any luck, Grnbekk will be able to continue in some interesting direction from there. Read Full Review

RED SONJA (VOL. 7) #17 delivers the penultimate issue in Red Sonja's quest to be rid of Erlik's soul and stop Kulan Gath. Torunn Grnbekk's script has plenty of twists, turns, and forward progress on the plot, and Walter Geovani's Bronze Age Marvel-inspired art looks great. This proves that the writer cannot plot out a long story. Her Catwoman is almost unreadable and I originally I really enjoyed this story and the artwork continues to be pretty good for Dynamite. She seems to forget storylines she created, showing that the story really isn't plotted out well to begin with. It is completely drawn out and the landing is already teetering before it even happens. I'm glad it's over next issue.
