So yeah. Vampirella and Purgatori. Vampi, the Vampiri with a conscience and Tori, the lady-shaped creature who eats conscience. Working together? Not really. Working towards a common goal, while considering tearing each other's throats out, more like! And that common goal is to stop Lilith and her near-infinite minions from having their rough, rude way with the entire human race. The stakes are big enough... and sharp enough. Everybody's in... it's time to ante up.
VAMPIRELLA VERSUS PURGATORI #2, available from Dynamite Comics on April 28th, 2021, combines decent art with a solid plot and an escalating sense of paranoid tension. It's hard not to wonder what happens next when you can feel a double-cross coming around every corner. Read Full Review
Similar to the first issue, there's plenty to enjoy here but it is operating on a kind of light level without any big concepts or anything. The scale of what could happen is significant but there's a sense of smallness about it all as we get just Vampirella and Purgatori trying to stop it and only really facing off against Lilith and Undine. Fawke's script is smooth and engaging, easy to enjoy and read, especially with Sarraseca's artwork that gives us a good world that feels cohesive and with leads that are sexy as hell with their designs but doesn't make that their focal point for most of it, even though it's quite plainly there.
