Andre Roussimoff is known as both the lovable giant in The Princess Bride and a heroic pro-wrestling figure. He was a normal guy who'd been dealt an extraordinary hand in life. At his peak, he weighed 500 pounds and stood nearly seven and a half feet tall. Box Brown brings his great talents as a cartoonist and biographer to this phenomenal new graphic novel. Drawing from historical records about Andre's life as well as a wealth of anecdotes from his colleagues in the wrestling world, including Hulk Hogan, and his film co-stars, Brown has created the first substantive biography of one of the twentieth century's most recognizable figures more

Comic Bastards - Neil Rodriguez Mar 27, 2014

When reading this comic, I felt as if I was in a movie theatre slowly unraveling the pieces of Andre's life. The charm and heart put into this comic is obvious when you read Andre's story (I hate to admit it, but even I got a bit emotional by the end). Overall, I say pure wrestling fans will enjoy this book. Andre the Giant: Life and Legend presents a remarkable story of a true hero in the wrestling business. My recommendation is to grab this novel, read it, and relive Andre's matches and movies to get the full "Giant" experience. Now if you'll excuse me I have some Andre the Giant wrestling matches to re-live. Read Full Review

Comics: The Gathering - King Jan 31, 2015

I will admit though, I almost cried during my read through " there's an incredible beauty to how simplistically Brown navigates us through the apexes and nadirs of one of the men who forever shaped professional wrestling, as well as who many know through The Princess Bride and several other obscure roles here and there. But it's this simplicity that makes this book so grand and captivating, as it just wants to tell a story of who the author believes was one of the best men who ever lived; even if that entails showing all the dirt and details that he might himself be conflicted over. It's a truly beautiful tale that is further empowered through minimalistic yet dynamic art and detailing, further concreting it as an ode to The Giant through its lack of color as well, which make it seem more of a relic and even swan song from an era past. I can't speak for Andre and I don't wish to offend the man or his legacy in any ways, but I'll damned if this Read Full Review

Graphic Policy - Brett Schenker May 13, 2014

With all that, the read is beyond enjoyable, featuring many individuals, that like Andre, are larger than life. The illustrated style is simple, and fantastic to look at, making it clear how much of a giant Andre really was. For fans of wrestling, those with nostalgia of the 80s, people who want to learn more about the individual, or those that just want to read a tragic story, Andre the Giant: Life and Legend is a fantastic read, one that I was excited to check out ever since it was announced. It's absolutely a fantastic graphic novel to pick up, for an interesting biography to read during these summer months. Read Full Review

    BGCP - James Taylor Jul 27, 2016

Overall, it is a good graphic novel that has some stand out moments and an art style that doesn't put you off reading. I would recommend this to any wrestling fan and non-wrestling fan as it is a great inspiring story of a man who didn't fit into this world but found an outlet in wrestling. Read Full Review
