Two children confront the sinister forces residing in a haunted playground in this horror-manga-inflected graphic novel from artist Antoine Revoy. The residents of a quiet Japanese neighborhood have slowly come to realize that inauspicious, paranormal forces are at play in the most unlikely of places: the local playground. Two friends, a young boy and girl, resolve to exorcise the evil that inhabit it, including a snaggle-toothed monster. In Animus, a beautiful but spooky young adult graphic novel of everyday hauntings, Antoine Revoy delivers an eerie tale inspired by the Japanese and French comics of his childhood.

It was that enjoyable, and while I didn't particularly have the time, I did enjoy chapters here and there while I read this review, which only makes me want to read it again when I've cleared off my desk. For sure though, Animus is one of the best books of 2018, and I hope that you'll check it out. Read Full Review
Antoine Revoy's debut graphic novel tells a deep and intelligent tale for those willing to spend time with it. It is a faithful homage to both manga and bandes dessines without losing the power those art styles have on their stories. Although the surprises that come at the end may be a little confusing, there's no doubt that the author wanted his audience to think. This gives the story legs well beyond a first reading. Prepare yourself to think " and feel " for ANIMUS is not for the faint of heart. Read Full Review
