In 1959, the Channel 7 News team covers a routine homicide that leads them to a mysterious rocket base in Peru filled with Russian spies. All in a day's work for the most trusted newsmen in America. They couldn't know their day'd end up with a hot pilot, a fast ship, cheap beer, and spacesuits!
Overall, I think this series had a lot of potential to bring in readers, but there's just no real introduction. It's not a very reader-friendly book and probably won't appeal to anyone that hasn't already read Astronauts in Troublebooks before. For this reason, and this reason only, I have rated the book lower for plot and dialogue. I think Charlie Adlard's name will do the book some good, but if itcan't become a bit more friendly in the next issue, I can't say it'll be a popular recommendation. Read Full Review
Though somewhat looser than his current style, Adlard's work in these pages is still plenty imrpessive. The retro '50s setting suits his style especially well. All the book really needs is an ink wash to give the stark black and white lines some added depth. Unfortunately, while Adlard's art is impressive, the story is too jumbled to leave a good impression. Read Full Review
I don't think I will be suggesting this comic any time soon. I don't think Larry Young is a bad writer at all. Quite the opposite actually. What I think happened was a bad choice on my part. I had no backstory on the comic, and not being a particularly knowledgeable person of the 50s, I was lost one panel in. I would say pick this comic if you are a Young fan. Otherwise, grab something else week. Read Full Review
