This book was a mixed bag. The art is great and the writing feels personal and heartfelt.
But the pace is all over the place and the last two issues throw away all the atmosphere and suspense and give us endless exposition and dialogue that is just a slog to get through with no real payoff. All of the actual plot happens in issues 3 and 4; 1 and 2 are only there to establish stakes by connecting us to the characters, but they're so sparse and cryptic that they don't really do that. The pieces here don't come together and the art can't carry it. Some tightening and general editorial help could've really elevated this one.
There's a lot wrong with this issue. I don't understand several things. A transfusion with syringes? Usually it by bite or dripping the blood down the throat of someone close to dead. He just happened to have tubing and a couple of syringes laying around? Then the concept of killing a sire and making them human again after they were dead? That doesn't make any sense. In the original Dracula by Stoker, they were able to bring Nina back because she was in the middle of the transition. She had never actually died. This is a very small story that started out well enough but ended in a dud.
