Bounding Into Comics - John F. Trent
Jan 06, 2016Four Eyes: Hearts of Fire #1 is a powerful and emotionally moving story that reintroduces or introduces you for the first time to this dark, dangerous, and violent Great Depression era world. Fiumara and Kelly have excellent chemistry, capturing the identity of their characters in the way they talk and carry themselves. The only downside is the pacing of the book which was a little slow, but in so doing, Kelly and Fiumara were able to give us some extremely powerful emotional scenes. I definitely suggest you pick this book up, you won't regret it! Read Full Review

Jan 07, 2016This is a fantastic read, though to get the real weight of the book you probably need to start with the first series. Read Full Review

Jan 07, 2016This is definitely a series I can dig. It’s raw, real (but fantastical at the same time), and so emotional. This is definitely a series to keep up with if you’re looking for a good story, executed flawlessly. Read Full Review

Jan 06, 2016All-in, the parity of art and page narrative in Four Eyes: Hearts of Fire #1 is astonishingly well done, thanks not just to the seamless confluence of Kelly and Fiumara's storytelling, but also to the efforts of letterer and designer, Thomas Mauer, who does a fantastic job at balancing the book's pace. As I said earlier, it is a credit to this entire team that I could enjoy a later issue of something so steeped in previous story so much. And just as I had a great time plowing through Volume 1 to fill in its gaps, I look equally forward to seeing what its future issues will bring. Read Full Review

Jan 07, 2016My overall thought on the series is up in the air. There's the one aspect I clearly didn't enjoy and caught me off guard, but the characters and the art are so good. It's kind of fascinating really. But animal fighting, even with dragons, still is troubling and impacted my enjoyment. The rest of the series will really impact what I think of this one issue, but right now it's intriguing and I want to read more. Read Full Review

Jan 11, 2016Not only does Image deliver a solid and interesting story, readers are also treated to amazing pencils by Max Fiumara. Personally, I am not a fan of the black and white style, but Fiumaras artwork makes you forget that there is no color and draws you into a world where dragons exist in 1930s New York. The first of two books written by Joe Kelly this week- Four Eyes Hears of Fire is something that I had no real information on prior to picking it up, and I have to say I was very pleasantly surprised. Imagine a world, post depression where dragons are fought like dogs or chickens or some seemingly mundane animal in a very cruel and amoral scenario. This book builds on that, along with getting us invested in the characters of this world. I really think this was probably the most surprising book I read this week, mostly because I wasn't prepared for this book to be anything like what it actually was. I assumed it would be some sort of Noir story, or maybe even a bit of a drama, but for some reason, I never once suspected that this story would more
