No one can be trusted. Critically acclaimed, fan-favorite The Walking Dead depicts the harrowing aftermath of a zombie apocalypse. Rick Grimes, a small-town police officer from Cynthiana, Kentucky, woke from a coma to find the world he knew was gone, and zombies dominated the earth. Now he and his young son struggle to survive, battling "roamers," cannibals, starvation . . . and his fellow humans. Harrowing, unpredictable, and emotionally devastating, The Walking Dead is THE zombie series of the 21st Century. SOON TO BE A TELEVISION SHOW ON AMC!

Ultimately, for me, this might be the best issue of the series on a while. It's funny because this is consistently the hardest book to review issue-by-issue because it's typically so very good already. So to say that this issue is the best in a while really says something about how, nearly 80 issues in, Robert Kirkman's series of an apocalyptic world ruled by zombies is still capable of knocking your socks off. The Walking Dead #77 is the climax to the slow boil Kirkman set into motion when he first brought the story's two groups together several months back. The death of one of the colonists challenges the group's power structure ever so slightly before an old grudge returns to violently threaten their fragile alliance. The way Rick and Douglas deal with said threat is both a "Hell yea!" moment and another chilling example of the types of choices these characters are forced to make to survive. And after Kirkman and Adlard are through driving the power of the climactic scene home, they use the last two pages to point out that the last several months' calm before the storm is very clearly over. Another great issue. Amazing how fresh this series feels after 77 issues. Also amazing that we haven't had any serious zombie action in ~20 issues (although I think the clock is ticking on that front). Read Full Review

Any faithful reader of this series knows by now that things never remain happy for the main cast. They have security behind their current walls and they have relative happiness in their community but that is about to become threatened. This series excels at surprising the reader and I'm getting anxious for the next one. It's been a great build up and this issue accelerates that all the more. This is definitely a very good read.
