Image Comics Under York #1 establishes a sorcerer's society that operates invisibly in the Empire State. As the first issue ends readers will no doubt find this story familiar to another world of wizardry. However, the society in control in Under York knows its position is precarious, despite their powers. They issue an ultimatum to Allison to both locate her family and help thwart a Babylonian demon from returning. The sorcerer's council clearly remembers how easily it would be for the surface world to turn on them. And the horrors they would impose upon them all as a reminder of their true place in the world. Its a fact that I am not a huge horror / magic fan. That said, there is enough going on in this book to entertain throughout. The characters work, there is a real threat and there is a level of complexity to events. Andolfo's fans will see that that this books sells well. Read Full Review

Under York #1 is a comic with a cast of bland characters and the ones who aren't bland are insufferable and borderline offensive. The world building is interesting, but the plot set in that world isn't. In a market where there's no shortage of similar titles, there's little reason to choose this one over any other.
