"Incredible Hercules" was a fun title when it was around, and I have no doubt that this story would have been told there, save for the fact that it was able to grab a little more recognition by being a free-standing tale. There is some fun to be had, at least. Amadeus Cho displays the evolution of character Herc isn't, and his scenes are among the highlights of the issue. The Chaos King's dialogue is also enjoyable. It's surprising how much can be communicated via haiku when the story calls for it. The art is also strong despite the fairly quiet nature of the issue. Khoi Pham's pencils are more clean and restrained than they have been on past projects. However, Pham falters when depicting a certain character's transformation late in the story. Visually, the character shows no sign of having changed, and it hinders the effect somewhat. Thematically, Greg Pak and Fred Van Lente are on the right track with this story. I'm still very optimistic about the finale of this event. This issue just can't be all that exciting because it is a penultimate chapter, but Marvel could have paced this event better because the abundance of tie-ins is making me lose the narrative a little. Read Full Review
