This story arc reminds me of that Community episode, where a flashback reveals the cast had unknowingly met each other long before the events of the Pilot. It didn't work in that show any more than it does here - literally creating a plot hole in Karen Page's history in the process.
There's also a bit of an anti-poverty bent to a lot of these 90s Daredevil comics I am not a fan of either. Also, this is two story arcs in a row where we have villains being gross in the sewers and it's hard to really engage with content like this.
At least Chichester and Jubran do some interesting things with their storytelling here, so it isn't a total wash, though there are just about as many awkward moments that pull down the fun of more
