While "New Avengers" may be relaunching next month, this giant finale issue seems appropriate and is touching. After so much time hiding, the team finally gets a big victory and shows that they can stand alongside any other Avengers team. The issue also provides closure on the Hood's story, which has been an integral part of the book for the past 30 or so issues, allowing the book and its cast to begin again next month. It's everything you could want from a conclusion to Marvel's premier book of the past five years. Read Full Review

Ultimately, what matters is that Brian Michael Bendis ensures that New Avengers Finale feels right. It's an emotional beat that speaks to both the end of "Dark Reign" and the beginning of "The Heroic Age" while staying true to these characters' struggles over the years. Given its mission, New Avengers Finale succeeds on all counts. Read Full Review

If indeed Siege was just another device for changing the status quo, New Avengers Finale effectively sums up all that was good during one of Marvels most successful runs in company history. For that, anyway, Bendis deserves closing this curtain to grateful applause. Read Full Review

The memories of the Avengers Finale are still clear in my mind and this was a great complimenting bookend to that, recaping all the big storylines from New Avengers the way that Finale recounted all of the original Avengers' great adventures. This is a very satisfying conclusion to both Siege and the New Avengers volume. I just wish Hitch had been allowed to use costumes he designed, himself. Read Full Review

Having written all of this, there are reasons for readers to get this book. It shows the progress Bendis has made and how hes managed to make the Avengers more popular than the X-Men in but a few years. So careful readers should take my criticisms with a grain of salt. Had Bendis totally failed in elevating the Avengers front and center at Marvel Comics, I wouldnt be writing this right now. Id be feeling relieved the series ended. Now Bendis is not going anywhere and is continuing his work on the next chapter of the Avengers history. Lets hope he succeeds there. Read Full Review
