Far better than it should've been, "NYX: No Way Home" sets the series up as something along the lines of (but not entirely identical to) "Runaways" -- not exactly a bad place to start. An impressive opening salvo from a team of fairly modest profile, and one that looks like it'll provide an entertaining read over the course of the series. Read Full Review

Artist Kalman Andrasofsky reminds me at times very deliberately of NYXs Robert Teranshi but also brings an original take as well. The panels bounce between the two different styles more than I would like. Sometimes the characters, Kidon in particular, jump between a throwback to the original artwork to a new art style. I like both, but not together. Hopefully Andrsofsky will bring more of personal style next time to create a more unique experience which will be his own work rather than an emulation of a prior work. But his work is very good, the characters are very expressive while attention to background details never become ignored. In a series where the city was a very important character, it is nice to see it is not being overlooked. Read Full Review

I don't mean to come off too harsh on this title. There's a lot to like here. I was a huge proponent of the first series, despite its delays, and I honestly believe that these characters are strong enough to more firmly root themselves in the Marvel Universe. And beyond allegiances, the few clues Liu does drop as to the villains and transpirations of the story serve as mostly intriguing. No Way Home certainly deserves a second chance, merited mostly on strong characterizations and feasible motivations; I just hope the meat of the story can pick up a little steam as we trudge ahead. I know I ended with some rather brusque and negativity for this review, but I did enjoy this story and will be sticking with it, but I think that has more to do with how much I enjoyed the first miniseries several years back and my familiarity with the characters than it does with this being a good book. If you have no experience with NYX, tread cautiously and 'byrne' the book in the store before deciding to jump in or not, especially at the ludicrous $3.99 price point. Read Full Review

NYX: No Way Home #1 isn't bad. It's not great yet, but it isn't bad. This first issue has its moments of beauty and wonderful simplicity, but in the end it doesn't make good on the promises of the first few pages. It sort of wanders a bit and serves up a nice distraction to make you want to pick up the next to find out more about the opening's provocative situation. You'll have to wait a while on that one, however. Only time will tell with the series as a whole. Read Full Review
