This is shit... There is a couple of fine moments, but that's it. It's super boring and the story is hardly any interesting at all. Plus the writing is especially mediocre... After a few pages of the comic I catched myself on a thought like "my god, it's like Stan Lee at his worst...". Then I decided to check the writer's work history for Marvel and well...
He's a letterer! He lettered 506 comics for Marvel and wrote only 3. One co-written story for old Marvel Swimsuit special, one short story in Marvel Presents and then this. Was it actually a great idea to give a letterer a chance to write DOUBLE SIZED annual? I think it wasn't... He tried to compensate his lack of talent with tons of words. The pacing is awful, 70% of the comic is exposition.
The art wasn't that much better too. That Joyce Chin woman isn't a really experienced artist. I remembered her from Hulk Team-Up one shot and she was okay there, but here she just can't deliver a good action when it needed. Plus sometimes her artwork here looked like she didn't really care.
I love how they wasted space in the comic for some dumb flashbacks and unnecessary boring stuff, but for some actual action-packed pages they tried to put as much frames on every page as possible... Sometimes there were even frames inside of other frames! This thing can be good in the hands of professionals, but not here.
Add to this worst transitions between the scenes, a senseless death of Elektra's friend from her 2nd volume, another boring one-issue-only supervillain who can't even speak English and you will get an annual to skip. Bad all around! I thought it might be bad (because it's 90's), but still gave it a chance. It was a mistake. Elektra and Spidey hardly even cooperate personally and it doesn't feel like a good team-up either. more
