Mar 13, 2024Symbiote Spider-Man 2099 is a blast from the past, and it's like Peter David never stopped writing the character. It feels like a natural progression of Miguel O'Hara's story while developing a story that evolves Venom and the future of Symbiotes. Spider-Man 2099 is shocking back, and he's better than ever. Mar 13, 2024This first issue is exciting and gorgeous as Davids amazing writing pairs well with Antnios beautiful art. This is a fiery way to start the mini-series with several events already being set up in just a couple of pages. I am excited to continue reading this series to see how the character of Spider-Man 2099 develops and the design of his Venom suit. Read Full Review

The art is solid in a clear but non-memorable way. There are some snappy jokes. But the prose has the clunky feeling that comes from a writer who's decided early on that he's not going to bother with a second draft.
And of course, there's the bigger issue with the plot and the characters. Peter David also decided early on, "I'm picking up exactly where I left off 28 years ago. If you're not familiar with the context, up yours, I guess."
But that's as salty as I'm gonna get, as this appears to be David's last-ever Marvel gig.
