ONE FUTURE ENDS...ANOTHER BEGINS. 3099! From the ashes of the AGE OF HEROES, a new generation of vigilantes, like SPIDER-MAN 2099, NOVA 2099 and RED HULK 2099, emerged in the dystopia that followed to forge a bright, new future - a future that has come to an end in the face of ABYSSYUS, a horrifying fusion of a KNULL-INFECTED GALACTUS! As the DEVOUR IN BLACK descends upon the world, a deal is struck with the devil - LITERALLY as MEPHISTO bets the fate of 2099 in a brutal battle of survival, pitting the warriors of 2099 against fan-favorite characters from across the Multiverse - like AGE OF APOCALYPSE-ERA WOLVERINE, CLAREMONT/BYRNE-ERA CYCLOP more

Nerd Initiative - Matthew Roth Dec 10, 2025

The End 2099 #1 is the perfect telling of the enemy of my enemy is my friend. The team pulls out the child-like spirit of picking your favorite teams to fight against one another for the fate of the galaxy in an epic opening issue. As someone who was cautious diving into this, it is friendly to those who may not have a lot of knowledge of these characters and a perfect gateway into more. Read Full Review

    AIPT - David Brooke Dec 10, 2025

The End 2099 is the ultimate culmination of Steve Orlando's ambitious, years-long reconstruction of Marvel's 2099 universe, delivering a relentless cosmic disaster story that feels both earned and electrifying. With Abyssus devouring worlds, Mephisto scrambling to protect his soul economy, and Spider-Man 2099 standing at the center of collapse, the series fires on all cylinders. Roberson's explosive visuals and Orlando's expertly layered mythology transform this into a true event-level spectacle that proves 2099 is no longer a side experiment, but a fully realized corner of Marvel's future. Comic Watch - Jamison Nilsson Dec 10, 2025

The End 2099 #1 (of 5) is the impetus to a larger story, focused almost entirely on setup but manages to avoid feeling like the bad kind of required reading by filling that setup with carnage while also establishing stakes for the characters involved. This is a big story, but its not a complex one, which prevents too much cramped detail and offbeat dialogue. My recommendation: If you are a fan of Marvels all-out war-style stories or if you have an interest in any of the iconic 2099 characters, then I recommend giving The End 2099 #1 a read. ComicBook.com - David Harth Dec 10, 2025

Videos by ComicBook.comWriter Steve Orlando lays out a rather standard story. Galactus has become Abyssus after being taken over by Knull, with Dracula acting as his herald. They destroy a server planet, causing chaos that sets the stage for the 2099 characters to show up, and Silver Surfer goes to Mephisto for help. The story then becomes a challenge between Abyssus and Mephisto, with each of them grabbing champions; Mephisto from the 2099 timeline and Abyssus from across the Marvel Multiverse. There's a surprise character joining the battle at the end as a spoiler. Read Full Review

Weird Science Marvel Comics - mrgabehernandez Dec 10, 2025

The End 2099 #1 is a comic book version of a loading screen, dumping plot mechanics on the reader in hopes they will be sufficiently intrigued to return next month. The issue assumes you already care about the stakes before giving you any reason to. Spider-Man is right to object; the heroes should have done the same. Invest your four dollars and ninety-nine cents elsewhere, or at least wait for issue two before committing. This first installment proves that Marvel can construct a complicated scenario; it has yet to prove that anyone will want to read about it. Read Full Review
