If you can get past the whole art debacle, there's a fantastic issue of Uncanny X-Men underneath. I doubt the days of dial-a-storyline are behind us, but for now I'm enjoying Matt Fraction's calmer approach to storytelling this issue. Read Full Review

Luckily, Matt Fraction continues to write some of the snappiest dialogue Uncanny X-Men has ever seen. Also, the action is fun and exciting and it’s always great to see the X-Men work as a team. Its easy to package boring stories with beautiful art. It makes the less palatable, palatable. But want to know something? Im growing tired of Greg lands work too. Marvel always assign him to series they dont feel would fly on their own. So he adds an extra boost that makes the reader feel like this is major stuff happening, when in fact, its as banal as the worst of the 1990s X-Men material. Is there any hope for the X-Men? This is a fairly forgettable issue that virtually ignores the only part of the book that I was still interested in -- the attempts of Beast and his team of scientists to research the original catalyst for mutation -- in favour of a bland fight sequence that doesn't carry any emotional weight for me due to my lack of history with the characters involved. I'm hoping that Fraction wraps up this particular storyline soon, because it's starting to turn me off an otherwise enjoyable run on the book. Read Full Review

I can't believe I spent so much time writing about such a bad comic. But hey, at least the series is consistent. Every time it looks to be turning a corner, a bad issue comes out so that they can climb back up and start all over again. The book isn't a total loss though, thanks to the ending and a few worthwhile panels, but it could have been a whole hell of a lot better. Read Full Review
