Legend MARV WOLFMAN returns to TOMB OF DRACULA and the character he co-created! WHAT IF...the legendary Dracula transformed BLADE the vampire slayer...into a vampire?!
Rated T+
What If? Dark: The Tomb of Dracula #1 has a great setup but lackluster execution, which is disappointing. I was really looking forward to this book as both a Blade fan and a fan of Wolfman's work. While it's not the worst What If? one shot I've ever read, it definitely needed more time to breathe. Read Full Review
There was a real opportunity here to go full horror and this falls far, far short of that to deliver something that is just a slightly bloodier version of a story we pretty much already know. Read Full Review
Pay attention to the title: While Blade has his role to play, this is really an epilogue to Marv Wolfman's original Tomb of Dracula series. Blade going full vampire doesn't really change his character, but it does lead to doom for the Big D himself.
The plot is solid, and it's relayed with workmanlike storytelling skill. But it lacks any real inventiveness or surprise. It makes for a decent dessert after finishing the 70s run, but it is by no means a must-read.
