I don't know how its even possible, but this series continues to improve on a monthly basis. Brubaker and Phillips have mastered the hard-boiled crime genre in ways the comic book medium has never seen. But even beyond adherence to genre, Criminal is high quality storytelling, plain and simple. You'd be hard pressed to find a better example of character driven fiction anywhere within the industry. I just think this is so much better in retrospect after reading the last issue. I mean, this is a fantastic issue, but the setups are really something else.
